The distinctive taste and quality of HER wines have an African feminine flair laced with grandeur that reflects the self-assurance and beauty of the shero’s who tend the grape plants.
A group of young, black women who had previously worked in the wine industry developed the HER wine series in 2020. combining their talents to produce a unique product that would appeal to strong and elegant ladies from all walks of life.
After working in the wine industry for several years each, general manager and winemaker Praisy Dlamini feels they identified a need for an all-female, all-black company that could combine their skill sets to provide a distinctive offering, a wine brand of which women could be proud.
The name was chosen as a reflection of the grandmothers, sisters, moms, daughters, and daughters-in-law who work hard to improve the world and then unwind with a beautifully crafted, reasonably priced bottle of HER wine.
Her wines have a distinctive flavor profile designed to entice the taste while inducing a soothing state of unrestricted happiness. This is accomplished by choosing locally grown, premium grapes from various Cape Winelands regions that are picked at the ideal stage of ripeness and maturity.
“We pride ourselves on sourcing the best grapes from local vineyards as it gives us control over the complexity and depth in flavour in each collection, satisfying the avid local wine buyer. “says Dlamini.
In order to give back to the community, HER wines has made supporting the local economy a top priority. They have promised to donate 2% of their earnings to the HER Wine Collection Bursary, a scholarship program that helps young people with skill and ambition realize their aspirations.
The first two scholars who received funds from the bursary have already begun their journeys, and the HER wines team will serve as their mentor. They will pick up important knowledge on how to launch a company and deal with entrepreneurship’s difficulties.
“We are a group of trailblazers, growing a business in unchartered territory. We’re passionate about investing in more young women who will be pioneers in their own fields while they inspire others to reach higher and wider,” says Dlamini.
Their drive to build on the success of HER wine is matched only by the desire to pass on the opportunity to other young black women who are eager to empower themselves. The HER wines team pride themselves as champions of talent that build opportunities for others to succeed in their wake.
