The iconic Table Mountain Cableway has shut its doors for its annual maintenance closure. The closure began on Monday, July 15th, and will reopen, weather permitting, on Monday, September 2nd.
This seven-week shutdown is part of the Cableway’s regular maintenance schedule and adheres to international safety standards. During this time, the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway company will undertake a significant project: the first full cable replacement since the 1997 revamp. Additionally, they will perform comprehensive maintenance on the hanging and running gear, ensuring everything meets the Original Equipment Manufacturer’s specifications.
The closure extends to all commercial and public areas at both the Upper and Lower Cableway Stations. This includes shops, restaurants, and restrooms.
However, for those seeking adventure, Table Mountain itself remains accessible. Hikers can still explore most of the routes and walkways, reaching the summit if they choose. It’s important to note that some trails directly below the cableway path will be closed due to the overhead work.
