South African Airways (SAA) has warned passengers of potential delays at the country’s airports due to the upcoming implementation of a new biometric movement control system.
The Biometric Movement Control System (BMCS) is being rolled out at all South African ports of entry before September 30th, with OR Tambo International Airport set to go live this week. The system is designed to capture fingerprint and facial biometric data of all travelers, but it is expected to increase passenger processing times.
As a result, SAA advises travelers to allow extra time for immigration procedures and to check in early for their flights. The airline anticipates longer queues and potential baggage delays, which could also lead to missed connections.
Despite attempts to contact the South African Border Management Authority for more information, Travel News was unable to reach them.
