The Investigation is in Full Swing! Proudly South African Announces the Top 40 Finalists for the 2024 Local Fashion Police Competition

Proudly South African is thrilled to unveil the Top 40 finalists in the highly anticipated 2024 Local Fashion Police competition! This consumer-driven campaign, now in its fourth year, has taken an investigative twist as South Africa’s fashion detectives search for the most stylish supporters of locally made clothing.

After sorting through hundreds of entries celebrating the creativity and pride of South Africans showcasing locally crafted garments, our esteemed panel of judges has narrowed the pool to 40 finalists who have been “fashionably guilty” of supporting local. This year’s Local Fashion Police panel includes some of the nation’s top design experts—Orapeleng Modutle (OM Style Avenue), Jessica Jane Molebatsi (Molebatsi), Mzukisi Mbane (Imprint ZA), and Ole Ledimo (House of Ole)—who have evaluated entries with their keen eye for design to identify South Africa’s best local fashion advocates.

“The Most Exciting Edition Yet”

Chief Marketing Officer of Proudly South African, Happy MaKhumalo Ngidi, shared her enthusiasm: “This year’s Local Fashion Police has been our most exciting edition yet. We’ve embraced the investigation theme to create a thrilling, interactive experience while staying true to our mission of shining a spotlight on local fashion. Our campaign encourages consumers to ‘make their rand count’ by supporting locally made fashion, which, in turn, supports local jobs and fuels our economy.”

The Local Fashion Police campaign goes beyond glitz and glamour, focusing on everyday wear, leisure, and work attire. This year’s competition is open to anyone with locally made clothing, offering them a chance to win big! The goal? To foster a mindset that prioritizes South African-made garments over imported options, showing off a range of local styles that suit every budget.

A Celebration with a Cause

The Local Fashion Police competition is more than a celebration of style—it’s a call to action. By choosing local fashion, consumers contribute to South Africa’s critical Retail, Clothing, Textile, Footwear, and Leather (R-CTFL) sectors, vital to our economy. As Ngidi pointed out, “Our fashion industry has enormous potential to create jobs and contributes to the broader value chain. With FNB on board, we’re able to give even more visibility to this sector, while encouraging consumers to consciously buy local.”

The competition will reach its peak with a grand fashion show, where the Top 4 winners will model bespoke designs by the Local Fashion Police judges. This exciting finale will be a dazzling display of South Africa’s vibrant fashion scene—so mark your calendars!

The Countdown to the Grand Finale

The final four winners will be announced in early November after an intense investigation that will narrow the field down to the top 10. The grand finale event is set for the end of November, where the winners will showcase their locally crafted designs on the runway.
