Africa’s dazzling design showcase Decorex Joburg comes to Sandton in August
Hot on the fashionable heels of its Cape Town counterpart, Decorex Joburg is set to sizzle and shine at the Sandton Convention Centre from 1 to 4 August 2024. Always a much-anticipated highlight of the decor and design calendar – and running simultaneously alongside 100% Design Africa – this is the definitive showcase of contemporary design on the African continent. Visitors will be able to take in two shows, plus daily live talks and demonstrations, for the price of one entry ticket.
Looking for homeware and interior decor solutions? You’ll find the Decor, Lighting and Design Hall on Level 5 of the Sandton Convention Centre. The best of local and international product and furniture design? 100% Design Africa is on Level 2. Focused on those hard-working areas? Head to Kitchens and Bathrooms on Level 0. Finally, the Renovate, Build and Trade Connect Hall on Level -2 will take care of ‘everything else’ like walls, floors, doors, windows, roofs, fixtures, fittings, landscaping and more.
Here are just a few of the many highlights to look forward to:
100% Design Africa
This curated product showcase includes a stylish café created by Wolkberg Casting Studios; a new set of Future Talks in the Future of Design area; a dedicated display by Designer of the Year, Tristan du Plessis; 100% Hospitality by Belgotex X Hesse Kleinloog; and a host of new product launches by local stars such as Joe Paine.
Luxury and personalisation at its best
Lexus is all about enveloping the senses with interior and exterior excellence. The Lexus ‘Making Luxury Personal’ Spaces at the show are inspired by the brand ethos of ‘Making Luxury Personal’ and they marry the brand philosophy with superlative interior design from Anna Correira, Mink Interiors, MoTSO DeSIGNED and Plan-It Design.
Lexus has invited these esteemed South African designers to create four exceptional feature spaces, informed by the latest Lexus car models. More than just capturing the personality of the cars, Lexus invited the designers to test drive Lexus vehicles to draw inspiration and to base their distinctive concept space on one of the five ‘Making Luxury Personal’ pillars: Authentic, Refined, Engaging, Imaginative, and Omotenashi (a Japanese expression describing concepts of hospitality as well as mindfulness).
Fired up creativity
If you can imagine it, you can paint it at this hands-on space that empowers, educates and inspires visitors to get involved in creative and lively colour experiences. The DIY Paint Theatre by Fired Earth will welcome showgoers into a colourful space where they can take part in interactive classes, colour talks and learn tips, tricks and techniques for all their painting needs.
Train your style
Ever fantasised about having your very own Virgin Active or Zone Fitness at home? The home gym concept stand powered by Trojan Health will show you how to incorporate all that equipment into your living spaces. And it’s a great pitstop for interior design professionals looking for fitness solutions for hospitality projects.
Colour advice
After debuting its concept at the Cape Town show, Plascon is back with an all-new set of colourful Joburg-based collaborators who’ll create room sets inspired by Plascon palettes. See how GLE Interiors, Living Inspired Interiors, and Ndibali Interior Designs can help you take the pain out of paint colour choices. The Plascon Colour Design Pods will push these designers to explore and showcase the diverse and dynamic possibilities of colour using the Plascon Colour Forecast for 2024. Dubbed ‘Vibrant Harmony’, this installation aims to bring together the dynamic world of interior design and the latest colour trends.
The Decorex Smart House
The Decorex Smart House, brought to you by Private Property, will display the latest and highest quality construction elements in a conceptual house installation in the Renovate and Build Hall on Level -2 of the Sandton Convention Centre. Top products and brands have been carefully selected by the Decorex Africa team to present construction elements such as windows, doors, lighting, floors, surfaces and home automation that will contribute to the overall aesthetic of the house.
Shop The Look
@Home will create shoppable spaces so if you like what you see, you can buy it there and then. Find this ‘show me how’ stand in the Decor, Lighting and Design Hall on Level 5.
Good looking cooking
The Samsung Bespoke Cooking Theatre features a lineup of sizzling chefs sharing their secret recipes using top-of-the-range Samsung large appliances. Samsung’s Bespoke range is oh so desirable thanks to customisable, exchangeable panels that create a bespoke look to fit your personal style. Along with the chefs, meet members of the Samsung Team who’ll tell you all about the different colours your Bespoke fridge or microwave can come in, as well as demonstrate Samsung’s new AI feature on the S24 called Circle to Search – simply scan or photograph anything food-related and it will tell you what it is and where to buy it! There’s also an array of sexy small appliances from @home to round out the kitchen equipment. You’ll find the theatre on Level 0 in the Kitchens and Bathrooms hall.
Eiger Experience Theatre
Your #fav ‘foodfluencers’ will show you how its done on a range of handy Eiger appliances. This interactive area will excite you with a range of demos that’ll bring #insta alive before your eyes and give you all the tips and insights you need to make the most of your very own Eiger at home!
Nostalgia rules at the That Food Guy® Café
Built on the vision of providing authentic fresh bites and coffees made with nothing but the best local ingredients, a first-of-its-kind, proudly South African, That Food Guy® Café experience will pop up on Level 0. Getting the jump on Heritage Month in September, the activation will feature a menu that highlights key food heritage moments through the tagline of ‘Heritage Reimagined’.
‘To know where we’re going, we have to know where we’ve come from, and this year’s Decorex theme, Designing for Impact, will mean That Food Guy® Café will feature an aesthetic that gives shine to the past, while also showcasing a fresh, modern take on some of our country’s heritage food items’ says Dale Herbst of That Food Guy Group.
Think jaffles stuffed with much-loved local flavours like curried mince and butter chicken, fresh salads, mouth-watering sweets like mini milk tarts and jelly and custard, and the most delicious coffees – with rusks of course!
