Hamad International Airport (DOH) has once again proven its mettle as the unrivaled leader in the global aviation landscape. Garnering top honors at the prestigious 2024 Skytrax World Airport Awards, held at the Passenger Terminal Expo in Frankfurt, Germany, DOH has reaffirmed its status as the “World’s Best Airport.” This accolade is not the only feather in its cap, as the airport also clinched the title of ‘World’s Best Airport Shopping’ for the second consecutive year and “Best Airport in the Middle East” for an impressive tenth consecutive year.
The recognition bestowed upon Hamad International Airport is the result of meticulous assessments conducted by discerning air travelers. These assessments scrutinize the airport’s performance across a spectrum of key performance indicators, setting it apart from over 500 global contenders.
Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer and the visionary behind Hamad International Airport’s development and growth over the past decade, expressed his pride in this remarkable achievement. “This is a remarkable achievement for Hamad International Airport,” Al-Meer stated, “as it celebrates its 10th anniversary of operational excellence, connecting passengers seamlessly from all around the world.”
Al-Meer credited the dedication of the airport’s team and partners for providing passengers with a superlative travel experience. He emphasized the continuous investment in facilities and pioneering initiatives in retail and hospitality as instrumental in achieving this milestone.
“At the heart of our growth strategy lies the passengers’ journey, their evolving needs, and our commitment to meeting and exceeding their expectations,” Al-Meer explained. Initiatives such as ‘Souq Al Matar’, which brings Qatari hospitality and culture closer to travelers, and ‘Orchard’, an oasis for relaxation between flights, underscore DOH’s commitment to enhancing passenger experience.
In 2023, Hamad International Airport witnessed a remarkable surge in passenger traffic, serving over 45 million passengers, marking a notable 31% increase compared to the previous year. This growth trajectory, surpassing even the momentum of the historic FIFA World Cup, reflects the airport’s appeal and efficiency. Furthermore, the addition of esteemed airline partners like Vistara, Iberia, and Japan Airlines, among others, has strengthened DOH’s global connectivity, serving over 250 destinations worldwide.
Looking ahead to its milestone 10th year of operations, Hamad International Airport anticipates a bustling 2024. Plans include welcoming new airline partners, enhancing connectivity, and supporting Qatar’s efforts in hosting various global events. Committed to the Qatar National Vision 2030, DOH aims to enhance sustainability efforts through investments in new technologies and pioneering industry-first initiatives, cementing its position as a leader in the aviation industry.
