She Fest: Celebrating 30 Years of Women’s Progress in South Africa

A powerful partnership between Constitution Hill, Love Infinity Media, and the Sizoya Sibuye Foundation has brought forth She Fest, a landmark event series commemorating Women’s Month in South Africa.

Held from August 1st to 9th, 2024, at the historic Constitution Hill, She Fest celebrates the achievements and contributions of South African women over the past three decades of democracy.

A Diverse Celebration of Women’s Power

The festival unfolds at the Women’s Jail, offering a vibrant array of activities:

• Gala Awards Dinner: Kicking off the event, the “Reflecting on Progress” dinner honors 30 remarkable women who made significant contributions to South Africa’s transformation since 1994. These honorees will receive an inscription at the Women’s Jail memorial, a permanent reminder of their impact.
• Visual Arts Exhibitions: A dynamic showcase featuring works by female artists curated from esteemed Johannesburg institutions like The Market Photo Workshop and the Con Court Collection. The exhibition explores themes of democracy, freedom, and women’s rights.
• Film Screenings and Panels: “Umbono Film Screenings” highlight women in the film industry, featuring screenings followed by discussions. Additionally, insightful talks with representatives from the Gauteng Film Commission and the National Film & Video Foundation delve into funding and development opportunities for female filmmakers.
• Creative Industry Workshops: Empowering workshops focusing on music, film, and other creative fields provide valuable knowledge and networking opportunities. Discussions with organizations like SAMPRA and RiSA shed light on women’s roles and strategies for career growth in the music industry.
• Intergenerational Dialogues: She Fest fosters connections between generations through events like “Take Girl Child To Conhill,” offering educational museum tours and Bill of Rights workshops for young women.
• Mental Health Discussions and Yoga Session: Recognizing the importance of mental well-being, She Fest features panels addressing women’s mental health, culminating in a restorative yoga session.
• Closing Concert: Culminating the festival on Women’s Day (August 9th), a free concert at the Women’s Jail brings together a stellar lineup of local and international artists, including Buhlebendalo, DJ Fae Fae, Teedo Love, Miria Alves (Brazil), Delta The Leo, and many more.
