Spotify is thrilled to announce that Nigerian singer-songwriter Godsfavour Ugochinyere Chidozie, better known as FAVE, has been named November’s EQUAL Africa Artist of the Month. FAVE’s powerful vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and unique sound make her a standout in Nigeria’s vibrant music scene and beyond.
FAVE first burst onto the scene with her viral hit N.B.U. in 2020. Since then, she’s amassed a dedicated fanbase with chart-topping singles and notable collaborations. Her debut EP, Riddim 5, solidified her talent, and her upcoming release, Dutty Love, slated for November 7, is eagerly anticipated by fans and critics alike. Her features with acclaimed artists such as Olamide, Simi, Phyno, and Davido have only enhanced her reach, and her collaboration with Davido on the hit song Kante from his Timeless album was one of Spotify’s Top 10 most-streamed songs in Nigeria for 2023.
Reflecting on her journey, FAVE shared, “Being a woman in the music industry can feel like an uphill climb, but it’s made me more determined. The EQUAL programme is special because it centres on supporting women, ensuring our voices are given prominence. It’s empowering to be part of something that’s working towards balance in the industry.”
Spotify’s Phiona Okumu, Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, commented on FAVE’s impact, saying, “FAVE is a shining example of the talent and potential emerging from Africa’s vibrant music scene. Her sound has resonated with listeners across the globe, and we’re proud to celebrate her as part of the EQUAL Africa programme. We look forward to seeing her inspire the next generation of artists.”
FAVE’s music transcends borders, and as she continues to grow her international fanbase, she’s becoming a cultural ambassador for African music, breaking barriers and setting new standards for the industry.
